Luokedong Gr

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Late Qingbaikouan (late-middle Tonian), Qb (50)

Province:
Jiangxi

Type Locality and Naming

Northwesternmost Jianxi. The Luokedong Gr was named by the Jiangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1959 (Guidebook of 1: 200 000 Scale of Geological Map of Xiushui Sheet). The typical section is situated in Luokedong of Panxi in Wuning County, Jiangxi Province.

Synonym: (落可栋组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Luokedong Gr is dominated by pyroclastic rock. Near the bottom, it is intercalated with intermediate-acidic volcanic lava. In its typical area, the Lower part is dominated by giant-bedded tuffaceous breccia, volcanic breccia intercalated with minor tuffaceous sandstone and slate, and the basal part contains a bed of altered quartz porphyry. The Upper part consists of red purple thick-bedded tuffaceous conglomerate and tuffite, of which the conglomerate is unstratified, and both the degree of roundness and sorting of pebbles are poor.

In the Majianqiao area of Pengze County, the Luokedong Group is dominantly composed of red purple thin-to medium-bedded andesitic tuffite with flat beddings, interbedded with dacite near the bottom, and the base is red purple giant-bedded volcanic breccia. The Luokedong Group is 218 m thick in Luokedong area and 224 m in the Majianqiao area.

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanic ash
